New Kensington Bank Vault Door Sells At Auction | C & S Locksmiths
People sell all types of strange and wonderful things on eBay, including a $50,000 bank vault door!
The New Kensington bank vault door is a century old and formally of the PNC bank. The vault door has been for sale since New York real estate broker Mike Ionescu bought the landmark PNC building where the vault door was from.
Despite weighing 25 tons the bank vault door did end up selling online and is scheduled to be hauled away. Ionescu did not mention the name of the buyer however he did say that they are in South Dakota and found the giant safe door on eBay.
The historic bank vault safe door was made by York Safe & Lock and is believed to be dated in the 1920’s or early 1930’s. The vault safe door has a diameter of 7.5 feet with a front plate that is 8 feet tall and 16 feet wide.
Despite international interest in the bank vault door Ionescu did not actually expect the large safe and security item to sell. Moreover Ionescu explained “It was a matter of transportation and installation, it's a big job. Some of the foreign buyers had a challenge finding the right contractor to do the demolition, transportation and installation.”
Now it seems the historic vault door is to stay in the States and is scheduled for transportation early next year.
Not everyone can afford the security of a historic 25 ton bank vault safe at their home however securing your most prized and valuable items in a home safe or strongbox is always a good idea. Also if you are considering upgrading the general security at your home it is recommended to contact a lock and security expert for access control, lock combination changes, high security locks, and safe and strongbox guidance. If located in the Tucson area contact the local lock and security and locksmith experts at C & S Lock & Security!
